Speaking of Hallstatt, the small town in Austria, people always think of its long history and salt production. As a result, the town is called the most beautiful small town or the oldest salt town in the world. In fact, the residents of Hallstatt prefer their hometown as a wooden town.

Hallstatt is located in the area of Salzkammergut in the eastern side of the Alps. The town is one of the oldest town of Austria with a history of 45 years.

After getting off the station, you may take a small wooden boat to go across the lake, which is so clear that the end could even be seen. It looks like a broad green ribbon among valleys and mountains. Rows of wooden houses built facing the lake appear extreme attractive in the sunshine. These wooden houses are very similar to that in southern China, but they use wood materials in walls, windows, balconies and so on. In order to make it different from the other house, each household will show their own style through the shape or the color of their houses. And each household builds the boathouse in the water to make their own small boat or yacht call at there, which is a means of transportation.

If you visit some families there, you will find something unexpected. That is because that all the residents here seems to be artists. The door of each household is open and the owners display and sell their various handicrafts: decorations knitted with twine, ethnic dolls, all kinds of ceramic products... of course, the most attractive thing is the wooden carving artwork such as cute cartoon of animal features, life items with modern charm, statues of celebrities.

Walking in the narrow town, you will see a variety of wooden signs. For example, at the cross you will often see a wooden board engraved with three arrows where are written the names of the roads, a wooden sign of the sleeping man in bed on the wall beside a hotel which is used as a signpost, or a wooden fish head decorated on the wall of a restaurant which tells visitors not to miss delicious food there. Besides, schools and companies also use a variety of wooden signs as their signpost.
